As part of attending the 2011 BlogHer conference in San Diego, California last week, I attended an extra day of conference sessions called Pathfinder Day. There were five different tracks or topics offered. I choose the topic of “My Blog as a Life Changer”.
The two women who headed the day-long session were Gwen Bell and Karen Waldrond. I have to admit that while I was familiar with Karen’s works on her blog Chookooloonks (amazing photography and beautiful words!), I had no knowledge of Gwen before last week.
Well, I am happy to report that both Gwen and Karen were wonderful leaders in a journey I am grateful to have taken. In just four hours, the other participants and I were led through three exercises that will forever change who I am as a person and a blogger/writer. I must confess I did cry during one of the exercises. I told you it was a journey!
I do plan to share all three here on my blog, but not all at once.
The first that I am ready to share right now is called a Life List. Similar to, but very different from a bucket list; a life list is a list of things that one wants to do in their lifetime. As Karen explained to us, there should be no negative consequences to not crossing any of the items off your list. She also explained that the items could be as big as going to the Grand Canyon or as small as baking a cake.
Both Gwen and Karen relayed their personal experiences creating their own life list and how it affected them. They had different opinions on how to handle the life list after it was on paper. Gwen choose to put her list away and in effect leaving things to be worked out by the universe. Karen shared that she keeps her list handy and even has her list on her blog.
In our session, we were given twenty minuter to start a life list. I actually found it hard to get started and was only able to come up with about 19 things. However, I really like the idea of the list. I really like the idea of having things to work towards. I am going to work more on my life list and update as I either add items or check things off it.
If you would like to join me, here is the link to instructions on creating your own life list from Karen.
